“He’s a great kid with a bright future,” said John Doonan, director of Mazda Motorsports. Doonan saying that about Connor De Phillippi now that De Phillippi has a full-time ride with Porsche speaks to the relationship the 20-year-old driver has maintained with the people who helped him in the past.
De Phillippi, of San Clemente, Calif., competes this season in the Porsche Carrera Cup in Germany as a Porsche Junior Driver, regarded as the first step in building a career under Porsche’s racing umbrella. It’s a change for De Phillippi, not only geographically, but his previous experience was in open-wheel cars.

With summer temperatures filling the air, an unforgiving 2.3 kilometer street circuit and 34 competitors going for the same narrow real estate, rounds 8 & 9 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland championship provided the Nuremburg fans with some of the best battles in all of sports car racing.

Street course circuits. A mini playground made of concrete walls, catch fences, and tire barriers. One of my favorite aspects being the locals coming out to enjoy a weekend of motorsport entertainment, and having the chance as a driver to meet these locals is an even greater experience.

Rounds 4 and 5 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland did not start off as planned for Connor De Phillippi and his FÖRCH Racing by Lukas Motorsport team this past weekend at the Red Bull Ring. They managed to battle the tricky weather conditions that have plagued the first third of the 2013 racing season, but it was a $10 belt that was the culprit of their early troubles.

With a new sponsorship and an exciting overseas opportunity, Connor De Phillippi is looking to hit a higher gear in 2013.
The San Clemente native is making his way up the ranks in the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland series, racing with FÖRCH Racing by Lukas Motorsport. He leads all rookie drivers and is eighth of 35 drivers going into the fourth round of the series today at Red Bull Ring in Austria.

America’s Connor de Phillippi (19) and Alex Riberas Bou are the new Porsche juniors for the 2013 racing season. The two young hot shots, who have already achieved successes in karting and various Formula race series, will contest the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in 2013. Porsche will supply the rookie drivers with the bulk of their budgets and provide coaching for the talented youngsters on and off the track.
